Color can be intimidating when I am creating silk scarves, because up to the point of dyeing a scarf, I am already invested in the possibilities that I have in mind for it. Consideration has been given as to whether the final piece will be textured or flat in appearance. The fabric has been cut to a specific size for a specific style purpose, and hems sewn on some or all sides depending on the design desired. Variation And Interest Through Color And Blending
The following pictures are of a new shibori scarf that I dyed 4 times, and the resulting piece shows how color blending can make a dynamite combination. If you vary how long you leave the scarf in the dye bath, you can add depth to the piece. For example, this scarf looks like it has turquoise ghost images because of the different amounts of time the piece was left in the dye bath. Only two colors of dye were actually used, but how and when they were used made the scarf blend


Shibori Double Pleats
This newest scarf is also delightful. Its a flat scarf, but there seems to be undulating motion going on in it. I think of it as a mesmerizing underwater scene. It could also be seen as birds in motion. This is due to the double shibori pleats. The blunt end of the scarf is wound clockwise and pleated and dyed, and then the scarf is wound counterclockwise and pleated and dyed a second time. The angle at which the silk is wound on the pipe makes a huge difference in the result
