My Love Story With Shibori
I am Alice Manchester, an artist and designer that has been studying shibori, including the life and work of Mariano Fortuny since 1999, and in the fabric art business since 1975. Taking my two daughters with me, I visited Palazzo Fortuny (now a museum) in Venice, Italy in 2010, to study the methods of the work of Venetian shibori master Fortuny, very possibly the last Renaissance man.
Upon returning from Italy, my husband David transformed our garage into a magnificent studio and office space so that Shibori Northwest could become a reality. I passionately experiment and create a wide range of silk scarves and other Shibori inspired silk wearable art in my studio in Portland, Oregon.
The construction of this site for Shibori Northwest ecommerce has been a project very special to my heart, so that my unique and lovely creations have a sales platform and can be worn and enjoyed by others who share a love for art, fashion, and very specifically, the Japanese techniques and processes of shibori.
As I progress, I foresee changes manifesting in the appearance and content of this site. Wisdom is gained through experience and knowledge. In my blog, which I am happy to say is also included on this site now, is a treasure of information and pictures on the processes that are
specific to the art pieces that I have created and continue to create. I hope you will find it stimulating, interesting, and informative, like I do.
Lastly, I would like to thank you for visiting me online and helping to make Shibori Northwest a great and lasting success.
